Winter in the Dolomites
Winter is a magical period of the year, especially when you can spend a couple of days in the Hotel Chalet Dolomites on the Alpe di Siusi and just under five minutes from the nearest slope. A blanket of sparkling snow covers the landscape, making it a true winter wonderland complemented by a blue sky and the South Tyrolean winter sun. How could you resist the temptation of going outside and skiing? The Alpe di Siusi is perfect for all winter sport enthusiasts: skiers rushing down the slopes using carver turns or telemark skiing or trekkers walking across the snow-covered wilderness on their snowshoes.

- And much more
Having fun on your skis
Skiers and telemark skiers haven’t got long to go from the Hotel Chalet Dolomites: only a few meters separate them from the slope and then they’re off, in one of the most beautiful skiing areas of the Dolomites. There are 60 km of slopes (175 in total, counting those of the neighbouring ski carousels of Val Gardena) winding their way across the white winter wonderland at the feet of the Stelvio, Sassolungo and Sassopiatto. Not only do you have well-groomed slopes of different levels, you will also enjoy a spectacular view, modern lift facilities and a good selection of traditional huts, to boot! The Alpe di Siusi also offers direct access to the Sellaronda, the 26 km renowned ski tour on the Sella Group. Ski or take the bus to Saltria; from there, take the ski bus to Monte Pana and enter the Sellaronda.
Acrobatics in the Snowpark
As soon as they see the King Laurin Snowpark some freestylers silently gasp in pure pleasure. The snow park is located at the centre of the ski carousel of the Alpe di Siusi. In 2014 it was declared the best snow park in Italy. Its rails, kicker, boxes and whoops are a source of excitement and extraordinary performances by freestylers. A particularity of the snow park of the Alpe di Siusi in South Tyrol is the Wood Line: all obstacles are made of wood. Four shapers ensure the snow park is well prepared every day and, as such, counts as one of the safest snow parks in the whole Alps.
Cross-country fun
Cross-country skiers during their silent glide on the Alpe di Siusi enjoy leisurely winter sport and a full immersion in nature. Discovering the cross-country slopes is well worth it, with its nearly endless vast expanse of the slightly hilly and sunny high plateau, where small pockets of green are harmoniously interspersed, surrounded by the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are 80 km of cross-country slopes of differing levels to be discovered across the Alpe di Siusi: two or four lanes are available, and they are always well-groomed for seasoned and new cross-country skiers privileging the classic or skate style.
Dashing through the snow
There’s really no better winter sport which unites fun, athletic skills, and is ideal for all ages than sleighing. Start by climbing the slope and then whizz downwards on your sleigh. You can always stop for a bite to eat in one of the mountain huts along the way. It’s a must. Get ready for the ride on your sleigh by tanking up on a meat broth in a relaxed setting. The Alpe di Siusi boasts two of the most beautiful sleigh slopes: the Zallinger (4.7 km) and the Molignon (3.5 km), ideal for a moonlit romantic sleigh ride.
The perfect winter shoe
Get ready for an adventure surrounded by nature in this winter wonderland: don your winter shoes and prepare for an unforgettable excursion. The excursion takes guests across marked trails and slopes, but they also stray off the beaten path on to fresh snow, heading towards untouched pockets of nature which are normally only accessible to ski tour skiers. Guided snow shoe excursions take place nearly every day on the Alpe di Siusi: beginners can learn the ropes of this easy winter sport guided by expert people, while seasoned trekkers are pushed towards the more demanding trails.
Snow-covered trails
As soon as your toes start to twitch, you know the time has come: the first snow has fallen on the Alpe di Siusi, transforming it into a magical winter wonderland. Time for a winter excursion! There are 60 km of well-signed trails leading you across a snow-covered landscape. The majestic summits of the Sassopiatto and Sassolungo stretch out in the distance and bind every traveller to their spell. The romantic excursion across the snowy plateau is enriched by fresh mountain air, the soft crunch of snow under your feet and the blissful peace and quiet.
Beautiful downhill slopes on fresh snow
Passionate ski tour-goers or ice-climbers cannot miss out on the Alpe di Siusi and the Dolomites. Under the right conditions and with the right skills, always accompanied by a mountain guide, they can conquer iced waterfalls or snow-capped mountain summits. Ski tour-goers shouldn’t miss the beautiful downhill slopes starting from the Sassopiatto. This imposing mountain, just over 3,000 m tall, is characterised by an imposing, steep wall and can be conquered on skis. It is one of the few high summits of the Dolomites where this is possible.
